Rocketboom: Internet on Strike

I actually hope this happens, let the internet go on strike to send a message.

As SOPA is fast-tracked through the Senate, interneters are mulling over how best to signal opposition to the fearsome legislation with unprecedented web censorship. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales is considering a nuclear option in protest - a total Wikipedia blackout, leaving every page of the site black. Before taking such drastic measures, Wales is asking for the Wiki-community’s input and so far the response to the idea (inspired by a similar successful campaign run by the Italian Wikipedia community earlier this year) has been largely supportive, though some dissenting opinions regarding tactics and the politicization of Wikipedia have been voiced as well.


If Wikipedia does take this step, the disruption it could cause could send a powerful message to lawmakers while bringing world-wide attention. Imagine a coordinated Wikipedia/Google/Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr blackout. Hopefully it wont last long though, what if everyone had to use Bing?
