Interview Recap (Flight Mishaps, Met Talib Kweli, Hella Tired)

Yesterday was one hell of a day. I was ready as can be for my interview in Jersey. I could hardly sleep. Hell… I think I even dreamed about the interview.

So I wake up, get showered, get dressed and out the door about 2 hours before my departure time. I get to the airport in Norfolk, and try use the e-ticket machine to get my boarding pass. I didn’t need to check any bags because I was going straight to Jersey for the interview, then a couple hours later flying right back. Well… the e-ticket machine didn’t like me all too much. I triedw putting in my confirmation number from Orbitz, my last name, everything! But still, it could not find my ticket.

It was hella early in the morning, so there was like 1 guy on the 10 e-ticket machines, and like 1 woman on the regular ticket desk for US Airways. By the time the guy got to me, a lot of time already had passed. By that time he said that it was too late for me to use the machine (because it had some sort of cut off time), and that I had to go through the regular line. Only problem was, the regular line had like 20 people + in it.

By the time I reached the front of the line, it was close to 20-25 minutes before my boarding time. They then tell me that it is TOO LATE to board my plane. I am begging and pleading with them, telling them that I am sure I can get up to the gate fast. But they said no. On top of that they did not have any other available flights to Jersey until around 6 pm that day. They then tell me that Continental had a flight that would get me there non-stop, at the same time.

I then walked away because there was nothing else they could do for me. I went to Continental’s desk to find out how much the ticket was, let’s just say it was wayyyyyyyy out the wazoo. I sat around for a while thinking what the heck I was going to do. I did NOT want to miss this interview, it was just too good of a job to miss an opportunity like this. So I went ahead and bought the ticket (god, my pockets were hurting).

Gave a call to the people at the office letting them know what was going on, but no one was there yet because it was before 9 a.m., so I was a little nervous then. I then went to my gate and sat around just thinking until my plane came. I knew that still showing up no matter what, and overcoming this obstacle would show a lot of my type of character.

Then I look up and I swear I see a guy that looks like Talib Kweli. I didn’t believe it though, cause I was like “Why the hell would he be in Norfolk, with 2 kids on his arm?” So I get on the plane and everything, and I look to my right, well… what do ya know, Talib is sitting next to me! Once I got a closer look at him, I could tell it was really him. I didn’t freak out or anything because I meet many stars all the time because of my job, so I rather respect them and let them live their lives as human beings. But I won’t lie, as I sat there I was pumpin’ some of his music on my Zune, lol. I was still in a little bit of denial that it was him, but after I saw his son playing with is Blackberry, peeped the designer kicks/hoodies/jeans he was wearing, and noticed how he was intensely reading a Spin Magazine article about Q-Tip… I knew it was him.

So I waited until I got off of the plane, and I politely asked him was he Talib. He laughed and said yes. We then talked for a little while about various things, once again without me getting all super excited cause I just wanted to treat him normal. I must say, he is one cool guy. I even got his contact info, so I may do an interview with him down the line.

OK back to the interview…

I had to call the limo service, because the guy was waiting on me on at the airport. Luckily he did not leave yet, so I was able to hop right in the limo and was on my way to the company’s building 30 minutes away.

To summarize the 3 interviews I did with people at the company….
They all went GREAT! The place is HUGE! I knew it was a big company, but I had no idea how big it was until I got there. Think… your biggest mall x 5! It has a food court, dry cleaning, full gym, everything. Oh, and the job is a really good fit for me too lol.

On the way out, my “would be” manager said something like, “Well… I hope to contact you later on this week.” I then replied with, “Well… I definitely hope to have a chance to come back home to Jersey soon.” He chuckled, and as I was walking out the door he said something like, “I think we should be able to work something out.”

I guess that was a pretty good hint huh?! I got a call from the HR lady today about doing a background check, and you know if you get that far… you are pretty close to getting in the door. Unless I have some skeletons that I don’t know about, lol (which I don’t!), I should hopefully land this job by the end of the week. She said she will contact me by Friday.

So with that said, wish me luck :) And thanks to all of you who have emailed, left comments, replied on Twitter or whatever… I appreciate it a lot.

More updates later on this week.

Oh yea! I forgot to add… they are reimbursing me for the ticket that I paid for myself. So it all worked out in the end :)

New Obama Girl: Pamela Anderson

We all knew she liked her coffee black, from that Kanye West “Touch The Sky” video a couple years ago. Look at what she had to say about the Democratic Nominee:

“I love him,” she told the AP. “I think he’s going to win. I like that he’s opening up conversations all over the world. I think he’s smart and charismatic. I think it’s important to have a president that people actually like. I know my kids want to be like him. I think he has a great message. It’ll be nice when people like America again.”
